Firenze, Lucca e Prato seguivano sistemi affini; Pisa utilizzava un diverso calcolo; altrove, come ad \u003Cstrong>Arezzo \u003C\u002Fstrong>e \u003Cstrong>Massa Carrara\u003C\u002Fstrong>, l’anno cominciava a Natale. Solo nel \u003Cstrong>1749\u003C\u002Fstrong>, con il provvedimento del granduca \u003Cstrong>Francesco Stefano di Lorena\u003C\u002Fstrong>, la Toscana si allineò al calendario ormai prevalente in Europa, fissando l’inizio ufficiale dell’anno al \u003Cstrong>1° gennaio 1750\u003C\u002Fstrong>.\u003Cbr>A Siena, però, il 25 marzo non fu mai solo una convenzione cronologica. La loro esposizione richiamava i fedeli e rafforzava il carattere solenne della giornata. Secondo la tradizione, le reliquie venivano mostrate anche verso l’esterno, alla folla raccolta in piazza, in un gesto che univa benedizione, visibilità pubblica e partecipazione collettiva.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>Accanto alla dimensione religiosa si svolgeva quella civile.
