Every summer, from July to September, Siena changes. The squares, churches, and historic buildings fill with sounds, voices, and instruments that echo among the medieval stones as if they had always been there. It is the Chigiana International Festival & Summer Academy: one of the most important musical events in Italy, capable of transforming the city into a true world capital of music.
But to simply define it as a concert series would be reductive. Chigiana is something rarer and more precious: an international laboratory where training, artistic production, and performance coexist in a unique balance, where great interpreters and young talents meet, listen to each other, and inspire one another.
The festival and the school
A stage without borders
The International Festival brings to Siena great interpreters from all over the world, with a program that ranges from classical music to opera, from contemporary music to world premieres. Concerts are held not only at Palazzo Chigi Saracini, the historic seat of the Academy: they invade Piazza del Campo, the Teatro dei Rinnovati, the Teatro dei Rozzi, the churches of the city, and the most picturesque places in the Terre di Siena. Music escapes from enclosed spaces and inhabits the entire city.
The Summer Academy, a world excellence
Alongside the festival lives the Summer Academy: a high-level training school that every year welcomes young musicians from all over the world, guided by internationally renowned teachers. It is not an ordinary school: it is a place where talent is refined, where technique meets interpretation, where the next generation of great artists is born. The concerts of the students are an integral part of the program and often reserve extraordinary emotions.
