When Jazz Lives at the Fortress
There is a moment in the summer, at the Medicean Fortress of Siena, when the ancient Medicean walls begin to resonate with something unexpected: improvised scales, swinging rhythms, solos that rise towards the Tuscan sky and disperse into the warm evening air. It is the International Summer Workshop of Siena Jazz, one of the most important jazz seminars in Europe, organized by the National Academy of Jazz of Siena.
It is not just a music course. It is an event, an atmosphere, an experience that transforms the city for about 10 days every summer.
How It Works
The rhythm of the workshop is precise and passionate: during the day, students study, and in the evening, they play. Participants attend individual and group lessons, specialized workshops, and improvisation courses, guided by internationally renowned teachers and musicians from all over the world. Then, when the sun sets over the Sienese hills, the students take the stage and showcase everything they have learned: the evening concerts at the Fortress are open to the public and offer authentic and surprising emotions every year.
Siena, Capital of Jazz
Thanks to this seminar, Siena is not only the city of the Palio and the Cathedral: it is also an international center of jazz culture, recognized and respected all over the world. Every year, the workshop attracts musicians, students, and enthusiasts from every continent, creating a melting pot of cultures, styles, and musical languages that enriches the city and those who experience it.
Come Listen
Whether you are a jazz enthusiast or simply curious, the evening concerts at the Medicean Fortress are an experience not to be missed: live music, open sky, historic walls, and emerging talents.
