contradaiolo\u003C\u002Fstrong>.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Secondo la tradizione, \u003Cstrong>Sant'Ansano\u003C\u002Fstrong> arrivò a \u003Cstrong>Siena\u003C\u002Fstrong> all'inizio del IV secolo per diffondere il \u003Cstrong>Cristianesimo\u003C\u002Fstrong>. Qui iniziò a predicare e a battezzare i cittadini, attirando però l'attenzione delle autorità romane durante le persecuzioni dell'imperatore \u003Cstrong>Diocleziano\u003C\u002Fstrong>.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Ch3>La prova del fuoco e dell'olio bollente\u003C\u002Fh3>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Proprio nel \u003Cstrong>Fosso di Sant'Ansano\u003C\u002Fstrong> si sarebbe svolto uno degli episodi più straordinari della vita del santo.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Dopo essere stato arrestato, \u003Cstrong>Sant'Ansano\u003C\u002Fstrong> fu condannato a una terribile prova: venne immerso nell'\u003Cstrong>olio bollente\u003C\u002Fstrong> e sottoposto al \u003Cstrong>fuoco\u003C\u002Fstrong>. Ma, secondo la leggenda, accadde un miracolo. La pentola si rovesciò improvvisamente, l'olio spense le fiamme e il santo uscì completamente illeso.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Un episodio che ancora oggi vive nella memoria della città e che viene ricordato da una \u003Cstrong>lapide di marmo\u003C\u002Fstrong> collocata lungo il fosso.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Ch2>Il martirio di Sant'Ansano e il ritorno del Santo a Siena\u003C\u002Fh2>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Dopo il miracolo, \u003Cstrong>Sant'Ansano\u003C\u002Fstrong> venne nuovamente imprigionato e trasferito a \u003Cstrong>Dofana\u003C\u002Fstrong>, nel territorio dell'attuale \u003Cstrong>Castelnuovo Berardenga\u003C\u002Fstrong>, dove fu decapitato il \u003Cstrong>1° dicembre del 304\u003C\u002Fstrong> (secondo alcune fonti nel 303).\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>La sua storia, però, non finisce qui.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Si racconta infatti che nel 1108 il vescovo \u003Cstrong>Gualfredo\u003C\u002Fstrong> convinse alcuni senesi a recuperare segretamente le \u003Cstrong>reliquie di Sant'Ansano\u003C\u002Fstrong> per riportarle finalmente in città e dargli sepoltura nel \u003Cstrong>Duomo di Siena\u003C\u002Fstrong>.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Quando il 6 febbraio 1108 il corteo entrò da \u003Cstrong>Porta Pispini\u003C\u002Fstrong>, il popolo accolse il patrono con un grido destinato a diventare leggenda:\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>"Il Santo viene! Il Santo viene!"\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Da qui l’antico nome di Porta San Viene, oggi, appunto, porta Pispini\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Ch2>Il Fosso di Sant'Ansano, meta di pellegrinaggio nel Medioevo\u003C\u002Fh2>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Per molti secoli il \u003Cstrong>Fosso di Sant'Ansano\u003C\u002Fstrong> fu una tappa fondamentale per i \u003Cstrong>pellegrini\u003C\u002Fstrong>.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Chi visitava \u003Cstrong>Siena\u003C\u002Fstrong> percorreva infatti un vero e proprio itinerario dedicato al santo, che comprendeva il \u003Cstrong>Fosso di Sant'Ansano\u003C\u002Fstrong>, le antiche \u003Cstrong>Carceri di Sant'Ansano\u003C\u002Fstrong> e la località di \u003Cstrong>Dofana\u003C\u002Fstrong>, teatro del suo martirio.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Camminare oggi in questo piccolo angolo della città significa ripercorrere uno dei percorsi spirituali più importanti della \u003Cstrong>Siena medievale\u003C\u002Fstrong>.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Ch2>Un tesoro nascosto per la storia urbanistica di Siena\u003C\u002Fh2>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Il \u003Cstrong>Fosso di Sant'Ansano\u003C\u002Fstrong> non è importante soltanto per la sua storia religiosa.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Da qui passava infatti la \u003Cstrong>prima cerchia muraria medievale di Siena\u003C\u002Fstrong>, costruita tra il IX e l'XI secolo, quando la città iniziava ad assumere la forma che conosciamo ancora oggi.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Passeggiando lungo il fosso si possono leggere, quasi come le pagine di un libro, secoli di trasformazioni urbanistiche.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Ch3>Un punto panoramico nascosto sul Santa Maria della Scala\u003C\u002Fh3>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Uno degli aspetti più sorprendenti del \u003Cstrong>Fosso di Sant'Ansano\u003C\u002Fstrong> è il panorama.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Da qui si osserva il \u003Cstrong>Complesso Museale Santa Maria della Scala\u003C\u002Fstrong> da una prospettiva completamente diversa rispetto a quella di \u003Cstrong>Piazza del Duomo\u003C\u002Fstrong>. La chiami per nome, ma i senesi la conoscono come "\u003Cstrong>Piazza del Monte\u003C\u002Fstrong>" e quel nome racconta già tutto. A catturare lo sguardo è la solennità dei palazzi che la circondano, un tempo appartenuti a famiglie ricche e influenti e oggi parte della sede della banca più antica del mondo, il \u003Cstrong>Monte dei Paschi di Siena\u003C\u002Fstrong>.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Ch2>Prima di questa piazza, c'era solo una salita\u003C\u002Fh2>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Guardandosi intorno, è sorprendente pensare che, meno di due secoli fa, questa piazza non esistesse.
