Si trova alzando gli occhi nel momento giusto, e chi la trova capisce subito che dietro quella cornice c'è una storia che vale la pena ascoltare.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Ch2>Le origini: un affresco perduto e un’eredità che resiste\u003C\u002Fh2>\r\n\r\n\u003Ch3>Gentile da Fabriano e l’opera perduta\u003C\u002Fh3>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>In origine, il tabernacolo custodiva un affresco realizzato intorno al \u003Cstrong>1424\u003C\u002Fstrong> da \u003Cstrong>Gentile da Fabriano\u003C\u002Fstrong>, raffigurante la \u003Cstrong>Madonna con il Bambino\u003C\u002Fstrong> insieme a \u003Cstrong>San Giovanni Battista\u003C\u002Fstrong>, \u003Cstrong>San Pietro\u003C\u002Fstrong>, \u003Cstrong>San Paolo\u003C\u002Fstrong> e \u003Cstrong>San Cristoforo\u003C\u002Fstrong>. Un’opera preziosa, capace di catturare lo sguardo e lo spirito dei fedeli, che purtroppo oggi non esiste più, persa tra le pieghe del tempo come molte altre tracce della storia senese. Nel \u003Cstrong>1764\u003C\u002Fstrong>, l’antica edicola fu sostituita da una tela dei primi del Seicento, probabilmente realizzata nella bottega di \u003Cstrong>Francesco Rustici\u003C\u002Fstrong>, detto Rustichino, impreziosita da stucchi e decorazioni di \u003Cstrong>Bernardino Cremoni\u003C\u002Fstrong>. La nuova tela raffigura la \u003Cstrong>Madonna con il Bambino\u003C\u002Fstrong>, accompagnata da \u003Cstrong>San Bernardino\u003C\u002Fstrong>, \u003Cstrong>Santa Caterina\u003C\u002Fstrong>, \u003Cstrong>San Lorenzo\u003C\u002Fstrong> e \u003Cstrong>Santo Stefano\u003C\u002Fstrong>, continuando a raccontare, con silenziosa grazia, la devozione di una comunità che attraversava i secoli portando con sé fede, timori e gratitudine.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Ch2>Il terremoto che ha cambiato tutto\u003C\u002Fh2>\r\n\r\n\u003Ch3>La notte del 26 maggio 1798\u003C\u002Fh3>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>La notte del \u003Cstrong>26 maggio 1798\u003C\u002Fstrong>, un terremoto violentissimo colpì \u003Cstrong>Siena\u003C\u002Fstrong>. Le zone popolari subirono i danni maggiori, e anche il tabernacolo della \u003Cstrong>Bocca del Casato\u003C\u002Fstrong> fu danneggiato: la cornice in stucco distrutta, la tela compromessa. Eppure, tra lo stupore e il sollievo per i quartieri risparmiati, i cittadini videro un segno: la protezione della \u003Cstrong>Vergine\u003C\u002Fstrong>. Fu allora che decisero di restituire alla Madonna il loro ringraziamento con un gesto che durasse nei secoli: restaurarono il tabernacolo.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Ch2>La cornice di travertino e la memoria scolpita\u003C\u002Fh2>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>La tela fu collocata in una nuova cornice di \u003Cstrong>travertino\u003C\u002Fstrong>, sobria e solenne, con una \u003Cstrong>lapide in latino\u003C\u002Fstrong> che ricordava l’evento e la gratitudine del quartiere.
