HISTORY OF THE DISTRICT OF THE WAVE

The origins of the District of the Wave date back to the 15th century. It was born from the aggregation of the peoples of the ancient Military Companies of Casato di Sotto and San Salvatore, among whose duties was the guard of the Tyrrhenian coast of the Republic of Siena, whose main port was the town of Talamone.

It was likely this connection to the sea that led the peoples of the two companies, when they began to participate united in the Public Festivals starting from the 15th century, to choose as their emblem a dolphin swimming among the waves of the sea. The oldest testimony of this symbol dates back to 1494.
