HISTORY OF THE CONTRADA DELLA SELVA

The origins of the Contrada della Selva date back to around the year 1000. It was the world of hunters that gave life to the Selva, inspired by the motto "First selva in the field". From this territory, the Sienese army recruited the best archers, which explains the Contrada's right to open and close the parade that preceded the 15th-century bull hunts, as well as the choice of its characteristic emblem.
